About the designer
My name is Max Otten. I’m a Dutch Interaction/Game Designer who just started Dungeons and Dragons and can’t stop designing characters.
Together with my girlfriend I live in a self-built yellow campervan. We travel through Europe and want to visit as many beautiful places as possible. In order to stay on the road longer, we need some income. I started designing RPG-characters for other people in my favourite style: flat vector art. This style is minimalistic, but distinctive and the low level of detail helps with the changeability of your PC’s vision.

FAQ
What is the price for a character design?
The full body commissions go for €75 and the portraits go for €40. Both amounts are ex. VAT’s,
How long does it take before I can use my character art?
This depends greatly on how much feedback and changes you have after the first version and how fast we can communicate, but in general I strive to get everything done within a week or two. The portraits usually are finished within a couple days.
What information do I have to send?
In order to get a good representation of your character idea you need to share a couple things. For the full body shots I require:
- A description of the characters appearance. I need to know what you want your character to look like. This could things like its race, class, build, hair style, clothing, skin and eye color, but also unique characteristics, like scars, a special piece of armour and other important details.
- Optionally you can share the characters backstory. This might help explaining its look, posture, personality and other characteristics. If you need help with your backstory, you can tell me and perhaps we can figure something out together.
- Finally any other things you might deem important for me to know. For example a pet rat your character found during its adventures or your druid’s favourite wildshape.
- Oh… and last but not least is your characters name! This will probably not change the way your character looks, but it is nice to add a name to the art piece 😉
All I need for the portraits are:
- A description of the characters facial details. This could include details like its race, class, build, hair style, skin color, facial hair and eye color, but also unique characteristics, like scars, a unique hat and other important details.
- The portraits don’t include much clothing, but the collar and/or neck will be visible in the art work. Sharing a unique feature like a choker necklace, a smart suit or a fancy collar can add a lot of flavour to the face.
- A preferred facial expression. Do you play a grumpy wizard or a jolly rogue? Adding the right facial expression adds a lot of vividness to your commission.
